Description

The Getting Unmarried™ Road Map is your ultimate guide for how to save money, get organized, make the best decisions, protect your kids, handle conflict and negotiations, create your superstar support team, as well as rebuild your post-divorce life.

It’s a road map to guide you through the messy, complicated, traumatic, and expensive process of divorce.

Getting Unmarried™ is your personal guide — holding up a lantern when the path gets dark and scary; pointing the way when there are the inevitable forks in the road; and helping you detour what otherwise promises to be a very rough road, full of deep potholes, tragic accidents, and no street signs or lamps.

There is so much potential loss associated with divorce. Loss of your marital home, loss of time with your children, loss of your assets, loss of control, loss of love, loss of status, loss of family, loss of friends…the list goes on and on. We want to minimize all that potential loss. And that starts with knowledge. The first step is the Getting Unmarried™ Road Map, and learning how to navigate. The sooner you get on the right path, the sooner you start divorcing with intention, integrity, compassion, inner strength, and true guidance.

Understanding the process of divorce is like earning a PhD in a subject you never wanted to study. The Getting Unmarried™ Road Map is the CliffsNotes to that course. With Getting Unmarried’s tools you’ll be graduating summa cum laude!

Knowing in advance the road you’ll be traveling on, and how to watch out for potholes and pitfalls will transform your divorce from something terrifying into something manageable, and ideally a platform for your redefined happily ever after.

The goal of Getting Unmarried™ is to help protect you from making costly mistakes. The road to divorce is full of very expensive missteps and miscalculations…and I’m not just talking expense in terms of money! With all of the important life decisions that need to be made in divorce, you could easily do collateral damage to yourself, your spouse, and your children (if you have them).

Most people who don’t understand the ins and outs of divorce, rush out and hire the first attorney they can find, and entrust the whole process to that one expert. It’s so common to give up control of your divorce, and put blind faith in someone who charges hundreds of dollars per hour, who doesn’t know the intricacies of your family, and who typically wants the divorce to follow a pre-planned pattern.

Your divorce is unique! Like a fingerprint…and the only person with enough expertise to plan and execute your divorce is YOU — ideally (but not necessarily) in partnership with your ex. You call the shots. You choose the path. You are in control of this process to the best of your ability.

I know this sounds terrifying. Especially when you don’t know the terms, the court system, and the types of decisions you will need to make. It seems easy to throw up your hands, bury your head in the sand, and let an expensive attorney take the reins. But there’s too much at stake to take that path.

Legal advice IS critical to the divorce process, and you may need to hire an attorney. However, before you dive into the deep end with all of your clothes on, let’s take a step back and answer a few questions, such as: which type of attorney is best for you and your situation? Do you need to an attorney of record, or can you proceed with them in an advisory capacity? Is the attorney simply going to advise you of your rights, or handle the whole case from start to finish?

There are many strategic decisions to be made, including which experts you will hire, for which tasks, and at what point. Looking at the legal aspect of divorce, is just one of the paths we will explore along the Getting Unmarried™ Road Map.

Until you understand where you’re going, how could you know which path to take, and what choices to make for you and your family? With the Getting Unmarried™ Road Map you can plan out your journey ahead of time. You can educate yourself in advance, and then walk with your guide in confidence, picking up valuable life-saving skills along the way.

The Getting Unmarried™ Road Map will also help you highlight the areas in divorce where you need more information, further guidance, additional expertise and/or handholding. Areas in which you can plan a deeper dive, gaining extra insight and clarity, so that you can regain or establish control, and position yourself most effectively for your best possible outcome.

You don’t want to head into this treacherous, dark, uncharted territory on your own. Walk softly, and carry the Getting Unmarried™ Road Map with you… Start with the map, get the lay of the land, and build your bank of knowledge. Knowledge = power.
